The Target
Port Reading, New Jersey

1967-1970

One day Richie and Steve showed up at my door (I''m Bob) and said that they heard I played drums. I was only 15 and these guys were about 18 so I was a little leery about their plan but they said they wanted to start a band and wondered if I wanted to try out. This was like a fantasy come true man, I was now on my way to fame and fortune and album deals. We initially had this guy named Jeff that Sang lead and didn't play any instruments besides the tambourine. To me this guys voice really sucked and when he left the band after a couple months I was glad and hoped we would get somebody who could sing. The other guys somehow got me to try and it worked. So now I'm the drummer AND lead singer. Our main problem in getting good gigs was my age. Most places required you to be at least 18, and I didn't have a fake draft card yet. We played when and where we could including some parties for "adults" who wanted to hear a bunch of crap we'd have to look up in old fake books.
