Mansfield, Massachusetts 1964-1966 |
Rick Rouillard was the
youngest (13), but probably the best of the guitar
players. Randy Tucker (14) was the more experienced
guitarist in the band, and could play very well.
Rick Lambos (14) was the filler and the comedian in
the group. He couldn't play a lot of riffs, but his
music sense was uncanny. He could feel his way
through anything and was a good arranger. Torri
Pantaleon (15) was the old man and pretty much
handled bookings and organized practices. All were
Mansfield, Mass natives. Rouillard, Lambos and
Pantaleon all played sports together. Pantaleon and
Rouillard were next door neighbors. Rouillard and
Pantaleon played Little League ball on the team
Rouillard's dad coached. Lambos played on the team
his dad coached. Personnel: Influences: Setlist

My living room on
a second floor apartment right in the middle of
downtown. The police had to stop us from practicing
many times because crowds of kids would gather down
on the street and start dancing.
I had a 1958 Olds
(the trunk could hold anything) I just got my
license in November '65. The other guys had to have
their parents drive them.
We always dressed
alike. We had several sets of clothes from matching
pullover V-neck sweaters to Blazers to dress shirts
and ties.
Local talent
night. Everything was right. Our mix was balanced,
our vocals turned out excellent and everything just
clicked; from setup to tear down!
At the local VFW.
Typical story of adults then not understanding why
a four piece electrified rock band couldn't play
Sinatra or Bert Kempfert!!!!
Summer
1966
The Shocks were unique in
that if a song was on the Top 40, you could bet The Shocks
would be playing it. Because we were all so new to the
scene, and naive as well, we didn't know there were any
"rules," so we just did what we thought was best and that
worked out right more than not. I (Pantaleon) have been able
to keep up my playing through the years and even today am in
a pretty busy local working band. I've always thought about
these other guys and what we accomplished. I miss them and
hope they're all doing fine. By the way, we got our name
from misery suffered by Rick Rouillard. The first few times
we practiced (we didn't have a name yet) Ricky would get an
electric shock from his microphone. Hence, THE
SHOCKS!!!!
Where are they now?
Pantaleon joined the US Navy and eventually became a TV sports anchor and play-by-play guy. He currently lives in Omaha, Nebraska, and still plays in a band. Rouillard lives in Maine with his wife and family. The last anyone knew, Lambos was working with the mentally handicapped and as for Tucker, he's like D-Day in Animal House: whereabouts unknown!
