Saturday's Garbage
Bloomfield, New Jersey
1967-1969

Saturday's Garbage formed from another band called The Vandals that included Mike, Allan, and Bob. with the addition of Gerry and Jim, we changed the name, and brought in newer material by Steppenwolf, Hendrix, Doors, Vanilla Fudge, and later Spirit, and other hippie bands. We played about three gigs a month-all local CYO, high school, and church dances, plus the occasional teen club and party. we cut one acetate 45, "River Of Styx" b/w "In The Midnight Hour," in the summer of 1967. There were only seven copies pressed, and only two or three exist today. Our best gig was the dance in Green Pond, NJ. The kids there really loved us. Bloomfield is a real greaser town and we had the longest hair, so we got hassled regularly by the "hoods" as we called them. Our parents broke the band up in January, 1969 after a couple of the guys were busted in school for bringing marijuana to school. Too bad, the band was getting really good by then. We were working on jazzy material, and were trying harder songs. We were NOT the most popular band around because we didn't care about commercialism. we played what we wanted, and to hell with everyone else. "River Of Styx" is now one of those lost garage band classics. It was released on a German compilation album in 1984, and on the album "Attack Of The Jersey Teens," which I put out, in 1984 also.

 Where are they now?

Mike still lives in Bloomfield, I think. Gerry lives in California. Jim still lives in northern NJ., and Allan? Who knows! I still am a working drummer, I live in Highland Lakes, NJ and I'm playing better than ever. I play weekends, and up until recently, was with a band called The Roosters that I started in 1986 with a few other people. The format was roots rock 'n blues, and pretty much stayed that way until the end although we veered off into Top 40 around 1992 when we got a house gig at a very nice restaurant/club called the Binghamtom, a converted NYC ferryboat. We stayed with that until 1995, then changed personnel, and went back to a bluesy rock format again. The Roosters broke up in September 1998, and I have put together a new band called Route 66, a roots rock 'n roll project. I'm also freelancing with various blues bands. My day gig is in advertising sales. I haven't got a clue what the other guys are doing at this point.

Comments: Mike, Allan, and I got back together in the summer of 1971 and rehearsed a new version of the band for a month or so, but that fell apart quickly. That was the end. I haven't played with any of them again, although it might be fun to try it once more. I think Jim gave up music. Mike played for a long time. Gerry plays on and off, and I am still a working drummer. Allan? Again, who knows!
