Best
Gig:
We had
entered the "battle of the bands" in the
Rollerdrome in Keyport NJ. We were the
youngest band by a good 4 years. I think
that we were the only ones that were
driven to this by our mothers. There were
about 30 bands in this shelled bowling
alley. We placed fifth, albeit last place
out of the top five, but we did beat out
all those others. I think it was partially
on the merit of our age and the sound,
thank you very much. Our prize was to come
back and open for the big show a few weeks
later. We opened up that show for the
group that sang the "Boy From New York
City" I can't remember their name
( The Ad
Libs, 1965
-ed). Anyway
- Peter had been in Florida and the
Standells just hit the charts with "Dirty
Water", which had not yet hit the New York
area. He must have brought the 45, we
figured it out and used that as our
opener. Needless to say it was very well
received. We were quite psyched about the
whole event.

I can't
remember ever falling totally flat on our

limited number of gigs.
