Peter & The Silhouettes
Tol-Puddle Martyrs
Bendigo, Victoria
Australia

1964-1969

Peter & the Silhouettes were one of the first regional pop/rock bands to be given the opportunity to record. The only two songs we recorded were: "Claudette Jones" & "The Natural Man", which appeared on a compilation album, titled : "The Scene Of Northern & Central Victoria". The Silhouettes changed their name to the "Tol Puddle Martyrs" & we went on to record : "Time Will Come", "Social Cell", "Love Your Life" & "Nellie Bligh". A number of these songs, I am pleased to say have become over the years "Cult Classics", with "Claudette Jones" being covered by a number of bands. All of the songs recorded by both bands have been featured on numerous bootleg & compilation albums ( vinyl ) & CD's over the years & are still played on radio around the world.

Best Gig:
Our own Friday Night Dance ! We developed a huge following & the dance floor was always packed.

Gig from Hell!:
Castlemaine/St Mary's Parish Hall. The lads from Maryborough didn't like their girl friends paying attention to us when we had previously played in their town, so they decided to pay us a visit one Saturday night in Castlemaine. We had to get a police escort out of town to avoid an all in blue. The M.C. at Saint Mary's happened to be an Olympic Boxer , so for a short period of time we felt safe, but the Maryborough Boys outnumbered us 5 to 1.

Last Gig:
Ararat Town Hall.

The Secrets: Peter Rechter and Graham McCoy
Peter Rechter on stage with Thee Pink Stainless Tail 14/05/2004

Wild About You CD & Book launch  at "The Tote", Collingwood, Friday the 14th of May to honour legendary songs and names from the Aussie Garage/Psych/R&B of the 60's. Once again the underground cult songs of The Tol-Puddle Martyrs and Peter & the Silhouettes were included in an impressive line-up of Aussie Cult Classics.

The Kamikaze Trio truly captured the feel & buzz of the Peter & the Silhouettes 1966 garage-punk rocker "Claudette Jones" retaining the biting fuzz, pounding drums and snotty vocals. Pink Stainless Tail invited Peter on stage to close their set, joining "The Tails" in their wild rendition of The Tol-Puddle Martyrs moody, psychedelic drenched hit "Time Will Come"..... a moment appreciated by the large crowd and enjoyed by the original Martyr.

Pink Stainless Tail, along with countless people on the night, openly expressed  their belief in the importance of The Tol-Puddle Martyrs single, "Time Will Come"/ "Social Cell" and its place in Australian Rock History as the first Aussie songs to capture the mood of angst and protest.
