Toad and the Croakers 1965


Originally formed in 1965 as "Toad and the Croakers" featuring Ronnie Hipp - vocals, George Lewis - bass, Harvey Leslie - guitar, Malcolm Cullen - guitar and Terry Hawkins on drums. In 1966, changed their name to "Mothers Own Elecrtified Fuzz Band" , and then eventually became "Johnny Moonbeam" from about 1970-1972. Played the circuit at southern universities.

Knights of Columbus hall , Jackson MS. Three top name band in town that night, only three couples showed up.

Last Gig:
Don't remember probably a high school dance or after game party at Ole Miss

Comments:
Never recorded, loved to play, hired at Ole Miss in the 60's for swaps and after game parties, anyone remember us from those day's? Never made it big, but it was not from trying!

Where are they now?
Summer, 2004

Ronnie, Terry live in Oxford, Malcolm still plays...last heard he played for Reba Russell Band Memphis, TN. George Lewis, bass player of Toad and the Croakers, (George was "Toad") informed me he has lived in California teaching at University of California and is now in Baltimore, MD as professor and director of the division of vaccine research, Institute of Human Virology (man it pays to study!!). all others unknown.
