We HAD to do somethin!!We had a great deal of fun and we had to build much of the equipment(PA , Lights, etc.) ourselves due to "lack 'o money"..We played places I didn't know existed!!. I Played Bass., Well that was in '67,'68, & 69..it was cool man cool!!

Comments: Thanks to you guys, we had a mini-reunion of 3 of the four King Solomon's Minds. We hope to get everyone together soon and jam. I wonder where the other Baltimore garage bands are. There were names like The Gigs, The Vandals, Brenda and the Sentries. Must have been hundred's of them in the late '60's.

You've got a great site here. When's the convention?
That would just be too cool! Maybe one of these days... -Dan

Name: Peter Rechter
Email: the_secrets@hotmail.com
From: Melbourne, Australia
Comments: My name is Peter Rechter, from Melbourne, Australia. Back in the 60's I played in Peter & the Silhouettes & the Tol Puddle Martyrs My current band, The Secrets, have recently released a CD titled: "Time Will Come" on our own label Secret Deals.

The Secrets are a blend of 60‚s Beat & 80‚s pre New Romantic. If you would like to take a visit to our web site : www.secretdeals.com.au you can hear the grabs of our songs & read the fab reviews. Below are a few snippets of what people in the Rock Industry in Australia, America & England have written about our CD.

We have recently put together a CD that features all the songs recorded by the Silhouettes & Tol Puddle Martyrs back in the 60's. This cd features a web site full of photos, artwork, history & the 1968 film clip of the Tol Puddle Martyrs cult classic "Time Will Come".

The Secrets - Time Will Come CD Promo

The Secrets‚ from Melbourne Australia have produced a great new CD ŒTime Will Come‚, saturated with 60‚s riffs, hooks & melodies, a must for anyone interested in sixties pop brought up to date for the noughties.
The Secrets, offspring of the Aussie 60's cult band, The Tol Puddle Martyrs, have remained deeply influenced by the sounds of the 60's and have kept this spirit alive with integrity and ingenuity.

The CD features 10 well crafted tracks, as well as a selection of hidden goodies and video clips revealing past secrets.

The Secrets crash onto your CD player with Claudette Jones, a wild 60's punker, with biting fuzz guitar and snotty vocals. Working their way through a collection of pure pop and power pop gems from the buoyant Good Times Bad Times‚ and Feel Pretty Good‚ to the infectious Think About The Boy‚ and S.O.S, as they dream, pump, bop and rock their way through their album to the moody, magnificent, Tol Puddle Martyrs psychedelic drenched hit from 1968, Time Will Come.

Not bad for guys who could have kicked the habit years ago and remained elusive cult figures.

- Compiled from reviews written by: Stan Rofe, Billy Pinnell, Ian McFarlane, Keith Glass, Robert Hazelby, Bruce Brodeen & Chris Spencer.

Tol-Puddle Martyrs. Promo.

The Tol Puddle Martyrs, the second incarnation of Peter & the Silhouettes, produced some of the rarest and most sought after recordings from the killer 60s punk period. The Martyrs developed a huge cult following in Central & Northern Victoria with their wild and raucous fuzz guitar/organ drenched material.

This interactive CD features 8 tracks, 6 original recordings and two reworkings of the classics, Claudette Jones‚ and Time Will Come, featured on the recent album release Time Will Come‚ as recorded by The Secrets, Rechter's current brainchild. A web site comprising rare photos, artwork and history of this influential 60s garage band is included in this package, as well as the original 1968 film clip to the Tol Puddle Martyrs, ŒTime Will Come.

Ian McFarlane, renowned Australian rock historian writes : The moody, magnificent Time Will Come‚ is certainly one of the great Aussie psychedelic recordings; an enigmatic, organ drenched trip that still sounds amazing today. And this new version sounds damm fine too.

Hey kids, I've heard both CD's (thanks, Peter) and highly recommend them. Do yourself a favor and check 'em out! - Dan

Comments: Hey...great site guys. Thanks for providing a place for us old rockers to post and share a few memories. I had a band called "Band X" that played out of Manistee, Michigan from 1965 to 1972. We played a lot of places in West Michigan at first, and then hooked up with a booking agent from Flint in '68 and played with a lot of the Detroit and East Side bands. We had a single called "How Good The Rain" in '68 that got some decent regional airplay. I am in the process of compiling some stuff that will be on a Grand Rapids website called grandrapidsrocks.com Thanks again, keep up the good work.
Thanks for the kind words Jay...how 'bout sending in the form for a page on your old band? -Dan

Comments: I'm off work for a few weeks from elbow surgery (to much guitar playing for a 50 year old man) and trying to think of something other than naked women to look at. I thought of garage bands of the 60's, and lo and behold I came across this site. Sounds like fun, so I'm anxious to tell you all about my old band "The Knaves". Can't wait to get started.

Comments: Very cool site. I grew up in Ann Arbor, Mi very entrenched in the band scene. I was the harp player for the Lookouts, a blues band out of Ann Arbor. Our band had very close ties to The Primemovers (my brother Jay was the bass player and grew up one block from Dan and Mike Earlwine (not sure if I spelled the last name right)and they were very close friends of the family (thank you Mike and Dan for your influnce on myself and The Lookouts)and still are. Reading about the bands and all the good times back then is sure refreshing. I remember all the free concerts at west park and Huron High and finaly got moved to Fuller Park. I use to go and help set up bands and their equipment and then enjoy the music. What great bands and what a great time in the history of music for this area. Keep this site going, it is worth every minute of your time to me and truly brings back memories. I still play harp (not with a band presently) but, I do jam with bands now and then and still enjoy it very much. The Tap Room in Ypsi is a great place to go and hear blues and I go on tuesday nights to the open jams. Blues is still alive and well in this area and I enjoy it all. Take care all you fellow bands man and women and keep those tunes a playing.

Comments: Lovely site - I can only say that I'll keep coming back in hopes that maybe more folks will post info. It's very very fascinating chiefly because my influences are quite obscure. Psychedelic/Garage/Freakbeat. It's the way. And I can only hope more young musicians see the beauty that was. Pretty Things, Kaleidoscope, Gants, Calico Wall, Gonn, Blossom Toes, The United States of America, Mark Wirtz/West, Music Machine(please read the book, nasty Linda Ronstadt stories) , Jason Crest and Bubble Puppy! *hehe*. And many thanks to the folks at Get Back! Akarma and Sundazed for the re-issues. Blessed Be! Any reunions? Please email. Prolly working on a Blundstone/Argent show here in Chicago very soon! Or if you want to know the happs in Chicago as far as shows or events... Cheers!

Comments: Memories that I thought would last forever...now I can hardly remember a damn thing. I'm 52, still playing in a band with my brother (he was also in our first band). Our first band was "The Only Ones" from Longview, Texas. Recently we've been contacted by European Record Labels(Germany, Italy and Greece), to reissue our old 45 rpm we recorded in '66. Because of all the buzz about our band I bought the domain:
http://www.theonlyones.com
We recorded "Can't Trust A Woman" and "Another Place". Since the last 35 years have been a blurr...it's hard to remember that far back! I do remember it was Magic!

Comments: first off, i dont remember the 60s. in fact, i wasnt born yet (1988). but my mom pretty much raised me on the old rock n roll (zep, dylan, the doors, the who, paul revere and the raiders, the kinks, you get the idea) and therefore, its become a part of my life. being quite interested in underground music, i stumbled upon this page through some search engine, and i remember my mom picking out certain bands that she remembered "back in the day" (the culture). also, i can relate to plenty of the experiences the bands have mentioned, being in a neo-hippie garage band, myself. sure the hair's gotten way longer, the pants baggier, and the parents more tolerant, but its still the good old rock n roll (well, maybe a morbid angel cover here and there). heres to the awesome bands who never made it big, but still kicked ass!
