The Fallen Angels
Birmingham, Michigan

1966-1967

Jim Buckley and Dave English became friends sophomore year and started the Angels in the spring of '66. Got Owens from another band, met Szwed at the teen center and he knew Daryl (whose brother Dennis was in the Apostles). Daryl and Bob were real musicians, we were in it to meet women. We played Silverbell Teen Center, every Combo Clash at Brother Rice HS, Seaholm HS, Groves HS, etc. Broke up when we all went to college, Buckley started Vagrant Winter at Michigan State University and played till 1970.

Fashion Statement:
We wore Carnaby St. frat stuff, but had the AC/DC attitude since we went to boys Catholic HS.

Best Gig:
The Cobo Teen-Age Fair (was it the Cobo Battle of the Bands others talk about?) We played 3 bands before Seger, there were thousands of girls and we signed autigraphs all Sunday afternoon.

Gig from Hell!:
The Patio Topless Bar on 8 Mile-we were underage and two guys didn't show. We played while the girls danced. They wore big cone-like pasties on their nipples. We thought we were gonna die.

Last Gig:
Played "Doomsday Flite" on Swinging Time then the Waterford Hullabaloo. The third lead guitar quit and we all went to college.

Comments:
Recorded original song Buckley wrote "Doomsday Flite" April of '67 at United Sound in Detroit. Danny Dallas did engineering. Got us on Swinging Time with Tommy Shannon, subbing for Robin Seymore. Did we have fun. In many ways, the best time of my life. Also, Pat Angott, the cousin of co-founder of this website (Dan Angott), painted the Fallen Angels bass drum... a sinister devil that was our trademark.

Where are they now?

Szwed moved to Fla. in the 90's. Sells computers. English lives in Minnesotam does PR and still plays drums, Daryl rumored to be in Alaska. Owens went to Texas Tech, moved back to Michigan but by then I had married his former girlfriend. Tough ! Don't know or care where he is today
