The Fade-A-Ways
Warren, Michigan
1965-1968

The band formed in 1964 as "The Wanderers" with Steve, Rob, Dave & Al Meloche as drummer. Dave & Bill were in the same class at school. They formed a friendship, and Dave asked Bill what songs he knew on guitar. Bill gave him a song list to take to their practice that night. Bill was soon invited to join the band. "The Wanderers" came in the top 10 at the Michigan State Fair Battle of the Bands. Sometime in 1965 Gary Pysz became drummer, also with a new name for the band, "The Fade-Aways".

Wearing our "Beatle Boots" and satin blue shirts we all loved music & performing. With our hair getting longer we were constantly being sent home from school. This was the middle 60's and long hair was not yet accepted in high school. Calvin Webster, the attendance director at Fitzgerald High, knew us well. Steve, Rob, Bill & Dave tried to hide their long hair, but Mr. Webster always seemed to notice them.

We were soon getting better paying jobs. Robin Seymours "Blind Alley", the "Drum Beat" at 8mile & Schoenherr, the "Crows Nest" at 11 1/2 & John R., St. Jeromes Parish at 8mile & Woodward. The St. Jeromes crowd loved the song, "Gloria". Word was getting out and a lot of different High Schools were always booking us.

We were all getting close to graduating high school and we all were planning our futures. Dave & Pam, Bill & Kathy, Al & Darlene were dating serious. Today all are still married. 30 plus years for all of us.

Dave & Bill met up in Nov. 2005 after 30 yrs. Sadly it was at Dave's mom's funeral home. Steve, Rob and Gary haven't been heard from.

Steve Morris and Al Meloche graduated Fitzgerald High 1967. Rob Morris, Dave Krull and Bill Ziemba all graduated Fitzgerald High in 1968. Gary Pysz graduated Centerline High 1967.
