The Dontays Trenton, Michigan 1963-1964    We all started out together in the Dontays but later in I think 10th grade we went in different bands. Rick played in other bands and Larry and I usually stuck together. Rick was like those people who use only Apple pc and Larry and I were Windows kind of people. Know what I mean? Same but different in our music choice.But we praticed a lot. The Dontays were a tight band if you like Ventures music. This was before bass players were invented. From the Dontays I went with the Shifters from Grosse Ile and got Larry in the band. Did lots of fun parties and dances. From that we were in the Village Beaus after they broke up and regrouped with us. I wasn't in it for very long but Larry stayed in. From that I formed The Lykes of Us which was one of the top bands down river. I was also in Kodi Road as a bass player for a while. Personnel: Toby Montry - Drums Rick - Guitar Larry - Guitar Influences: The Ventures Setlist Sample: Sleep Walk, Walk Don't Run, Pipeline Equipment: Fender, Gibson and Epiphone, Slingerland and Ludwig Rehearsal Space: Mainly Toby's living room while the rest of the fam watched tv. Band Vehicles: Any friendly parent in the mood to drive. Fashion Statement: Look a like vest, white socks and black shoes. Best Gig: 9 th grade Trenton High Shindig. It was cool to be in it. Gig from Hell!: Never had a bad gig in that band. Last Gig: Are you kidding? Who can remember? Comments: I miss the good old days. Winter, 2005 Rick is in Monore, MI, Larry is in Texas and I have been living in Japan for 15 years. I have jammed and played in many bands here. At 56 I still like to rock and roll.
