Dead Silence
Gaylord, Michigan

1967-1969

We were all buddies from school who played in different bands and just decided to go for it. We played all over . I don't think we ever turned a gig down. We would load up the hearse and take off at 4:30 Friday afternoon and come rolling back home at 3 am most weekends. We were young and just enjoyed it all. Our music/set list ran the gamut- Beatles, Turtles, Cream, Amboy Dukes, McCoys, Association. Wished we could have done more harmony but, hey .

Personnel:
Larry Riechert - Organ/Vocals
Van Fritz - Lead Guitar
Buzz Smith - Bass Guitar/Vocals
Jack Dietering - Drums/Vocals
Rick Stimmer - Guitar/Vocals
Milo Carsten - Vocals

Influences:
Cream, Dick Wagner& The Frost, Amboy Dukes.

Setlist Sample:
Journey To The Center Of Your Mind, SWLABR, Sunshine Of Your Love, Never My Love.

Equipment:
Fender Dual Showmans, Fender Twin reverb, PA Gibson, Ludwig Drums, Vox Jaguar organ .

Rehearsal Space:
Believe it or not we did some practicing in a basement bomb shelter!

Band Vehicles:
1958 Potiac Superior Hearse with a homemade trailer.

Fashion Statement:
Poor boy shirts/Tom Jones shirts, Nehru Jackets with white jeans.

Best Gig:
Our best gigs were where we could play back up to some of the big names - The Animals, Bob Seger System, Human Beinz, The Excels. Most fun was Crystal Lake Pavillion...we sold snacks and pop, made a killing and had lots of fun.

Gig from Hell!:
Alpinefest- accustics were lousy and we had to contend with Oompa bands playing down the street.

Last Gig:
None listed.

Comments:
Some of my fondest memories of being with friends and seeing new places and learning new things. I still play every now and then, but it isn't the same. Oh, to be 16 again.
