Confederation Of Sound
Colebrook, New Hampshire

1966-1968

Flashback to 1966! Five school guys from three different school systems in northern New Hampshire and Vermont find each other. All have a love of music, some have already obtained equipment, others are resourcefully putting things together, and one of them has a Volkswagen Van! All the chemistry and transportation needed to form the first ever Garage Band in these northern reaches. Alert the Media, the Band is Born! Practice sessions in the local Legion Hall lead to first appearances at weddings and a battle of the bands. Needing a lasting name, we organize our first self sponsored dance held at the Colebrook Town Hall. A naming contest was held and the hands down winner was The Confederation of Sound. One of our strengths was vocals, everyone having a range and ability to do harmony. We had a real diverse appreciation of music and everyone brought something to the table, making us able to perform British Invasion, Rock, Soul and Psychedelic.

Best Gig:
Last Gig at Colebrook Town Hall. We got together extra equipment, including a Hammond organ with a Leslie, and we recorded the rehearsal. The recording was only from a portable cassette player from a single mic dangling off the balcony. The hall was empty so the acoustics were awful, but what a souvenir and memory! We converted it to CD for posterity.

Gig from Hell!:
Got booked for a dance in Fairlee, VT opposite the high school prom, turnout was zilch and it was a loooooonnnnnggggg drive back.

Last Gig:
Colebrook Town Hall, September 1968.

Comments:
The old gray mare ain't what she used to be, but we're having a ball!!!

Where are they now?
Spring, 2005

Flash forward to 2001! Some thirty years later in Canaan, VT a reunion was instigated, equipment was resurrected and borrowed, a brief practice was held, and a rusty but enthusiastic free concert was held at the local park. After the dust settled and the disbelief abated came the crazy idea to continue getting together for practice and fun. This manifested itself into putting on benefit dances for local charity and Summer Tour 2002 - Live at the Legion was formed. And the beat goes on, Live at the Legion 2003 and now 2005.
