Bark of Paper
Mulberry were just a bunch of kids that
grew up together. I met Ron thru his dad
playing music with my dad. We were best
friends thru all of high school. We played
mostly dances & teen parties for
pennies or for free. We saw an ad in the
paper where we could audition for a
Detroit record label and maybe cut a
record. We went down there and they liked
one of my songs. Brad had left the band by
that time and we were just a quartet. Mike
Valvano, who was producing Fridgid Pink at
that time was the producer. He played us
their version of "House of the Rising Sun"
which was a big hit. My song called "Wait"
was one of the songs he wanted us to
record. I remember we borrowed $700.00
from my Dad to record the record. We got
1000 copies and helped the "Sound" record
label promote the record in our area. The
other side was the "A" side called "Get
Yourself together" Ron & I both sang
lead lines on the song. Sort of a Motown
type of thing. Not really a BPM type song,
but we did it anyway. Catfish Hodge sang
backround vocals with us on both sides. It
was a 4 track recording, pretty hi-tech
for that time. Jack Neal ended up leaving
and we just called ourselves BPM a power
trio... Blue Cheer, MC5, Cream, etc. Gary
ended up playing with me in the
Wild
West Show
