Comments: I don't know if it's fair for me to be on

The Wrapper: Such a high quality local band that no
other local band could equal.Great vocals,
musicians and personalities. I remember them mostly
for their originals and their covers of The Beatles
and Chicago.
Paxton Center: I really liked the way they did Time
of the Season by The Zombies! Later members of that
band and members of The Mace became BEAST.
The Dogs: Lansing's Cream. Mary on bass, Loren on
guitar and Art on drums were such a unit!
The Cloud: They were especially good at covering
The Stones. There were times when they would let me
perform with them at some of their gigs. Two of the
members died young ... Don Hess - bass (who took
the photos in the collage on the BEAST page and was
also a rock concert photographer) and Randy Miller
- drums.
Otis: Lansing's Spirit. I remember them best for
Jim Pitchford's outstanding vocals and keyboard
work.

numbers. They put out a 45 entitled 'Jezebel'
around 67 or 68 I think. Their posters hyped them
as having the largest array of Vox equipment in the
country. Eddie Haddad was their manager. Saw them a
couple times and was blown away each time I saw
them. They did mostly cover tunes and sounded darn
close to the actual recordings. The band would even
tackle tunes by groups like the Mamas & Papas
and sound credible. The group was still together
back in the early 80's with a couple of the
original members, but I'm not sure if they are
still together.

Sirs,
Mogan David & the Sour Grapes of

I am from the area and would be very surprised if
this band ever really existed. Nice mental pictures
on their "Rehearsal, and living conditions"
though.
DB
Well, could be, but we
like to give people the benefit of the doubt. In
any case, it's a great story! -Dan
More on the
Mogen David controversy...
Maybe the guy who submitted the info (annonymously)
needs to speak up in his defense...otherwise, maybe
we'll put it to a vote - who out there thinks we
should 86 Mogen David & the Grapes of
Wrath?
Hi!
I found your "My First Band" website a while
back...really cool! While I was too young to have
played in a band in the 60's, I have researched
tons of garage bands, going so far as to find
members from hundreds of different ones, especially
in Michigan (where I live). In fact, in the late
1980s/early 90's I published a Michigan 60's garage
fanzine entitled "12 O'Clock July".
I gotta tell you...the
Mogan David & The Grapes Of Wrath info is
bogus! First off, they weren't from Chicago, they
were from a small town in North Central Indiana!
They are thought to be a Chicago band because they
cut a 45 on a Chicago label called "Cha Cha"
entitled "Little Girl Gone/Don't Wantcha No More".
I have talked with one band member who now resides
in Georgia. Other guys I know have talked to other
band guys as well. The info is bogus!
I'll tell some of my old band contacts about your
site and maybe we can get some more
contributions.
One last question...are
the Clear Blue Sky cuts on your site available on a
cassette or CD in their full length forms? I'd love
to have a copy if that's possible.
Ask and yee shall
receive, send me an address and I'll get a copy of
those plus some other tracks out to you!

Comments: I used to date one of the guys in this
band. They were one of the best party bands in

reunion and invite their old friends. I know it's
been over 30 years, but I still have a crush on one
of them. - Mary

Comments: I am trying to seek my biological father
who was a guitarist in a band when he was around 19
yr old in 1968 or 1969 either in MD, VA or DC area.
He met a 16 or 17 yr old High School girl and had
fling with her. Her mother used to be in operetta
(opera vocalist) and music lover like biological
mother. Her brother was active in drama in college
at that time. She got pregnant by my biological
father and obviously was forced to give up me for
adoption following my birth at George Washington
University hospital. Please let me know if you know
or are familiar with that person who is a guitarist
in band and possibly has brown hair, caucasian,
brown eyes. I really want to find him. I was born
in October in 1969 so you might figure out who that
was if you even remember your own band member
having a fling. Biological mother was a music lover
and could play piano like her mother.

Comments: I was the bass player in this band (The
Cherry Slush). We played a reunion show on June 19,
2002 and hadn't played together for over 30 years.
We played for over 2200 people. All orginal 5
players showed up. (That's unusal) What a blast.
Thank-you to everybody who joined us to remember
"The Slush". We had 6-8 records out and our newly
CD is available on www.wagnermusic.com
(Dick Wagner formly of Alice Cooper) We felt it was
time we made money since we didn't make any on the
records the first go around. I did a search on the
Cherry Slush Reunion and your site came up. I guess
we are mentioned here somewhere. Those were the
days and the problem is, you don't realize it till
you get my age.
Peace, Love...See you on the radio.

Band Hometown: South Brunswick Twp., New Jersey
Year: 1967-69 (or so)
Comments: B.S.I. was the 2nd name of this group
that I caught in and around South Brunswick High
School in the late 60's. They had 2 guitars, a
singing drummer, lead singer and bass (I know a
couple names:Tony Macrini(v), Dennis
Connaughton(d), Rich Meeker (lead gtr), but forget
the others) - all older kids than me, but they had
a fat, fun sound that really inspired me as a kid.
Legend has it that Donald Fagen, from SBHS, tried
to or did indeed, audition for B.S.I. with his
little keyboard but they weren't interested - "they
were a guitar band." Fagen went on to do something
else. Anyone out there remember all the names of
this band?

hey Dan,
my name is Justin Roney, from Tinley Park,
Illinois. My father was in a band in the late
60's/70's called
"Stone Container." The Chicago-based band
had a record out, and I am trying my darndest to
find one.
I know they had a record, because I have one of the
publicity flyers from the record framed up
somewhere!!!
I'm trying to get any info I can on the band!! It's
hard to talk to my father about it, because I think
he had to
give up the band and his dreams of being the next
"big thing" in order to get married and all that
stuff.
So, if you know anything that might help me out,
I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
-Justin Roney
Anybody out there have
any info to help him out? If so, send it to me and
I'll pass it along. -Thx, Dan

BandHometown: Houston TX
Year: 1966
Comments: There were sure where a lot of bands
called the Rogues back then. I don't know how long
the band was together. There were 5 members, I can
only remember 4 by name: Rodney Miller, (drummer)
Earl Blair, Michael Brumley, and John Lawrence.
They played a lot of the Beatles, and the other
British groups.
Rodney and Earl were cousins, I believe, and they
had graduated from Aldine High School, I think
in1965. Michael was still going to Sam Houston HS.
Johnny was about 21 yrs old. The 5th guy went to
Westbury HS.
They cut 2 records,
released by Kaplan records in 1966:
It's Gonna Work Out Fine / Don't You Wish You Were
Mine
and Tell Me No Lies / Take Our Last
Walk.
They practiced at Rodney's
parents home on the northeast side of Houston.
My girlfriends and I would usually ride with them
to gigs, usually at small local clubs, the Y, or
hootenanny's at the schools. You don't know what a
hootenanny is?! Just a small concert with local
talent (Hey, it worked for Mickey Gilley, Roy Head,
and BJ Thomas), usually held in school, on the
weekends, promoted by the local radio stations.
(Back then KNUZ was the big rock n roll
station).
"fun times and fond memories".
Thanks, I have enjoyed your website
