The Outriders
Arlington, Virginia

1964-1967

All were Virginia boys born in the mid fourties. This was Dave Kiser's only long term band, though afterwards he began doing multitrack recordings in his home. Eventually he got into building both acoustic and electric guitars, some of very fine quality. Doug Polk played drums in a dozen bands from '67 to '72, finishing his Virginia period in "Hybrid", one of the first Jazz/Rock fusion bands playing all original instrumentals. Doug moved to San Francisco in '72 and switched to guitar, eventually studying jazz with Dave Smith, a proponant of Joe Pass. Doug also played jazz violin. He last played guitar in the P.Jammer Band in Pacifica, CA for over 8 years, two gigs a week. Jim Polk went on to playing bass as a professional side man, playing with Jerry Louis, Ella Fitzgerald, and others. He played with Hybrid, and he may also have played short periods with Link Ray and Jack VanHorn (not verified). Jim played with the Rubber Biscuit Band (VA).

Where are they now?

Dave Kiser is now a web site designer in Leesburg, VA and may or may not still play for pleasure. Jim Polk surfaced in Richmond, VA in 2004, still playing bass and singing in the Richmond based country band "Serria". He was also an excellent Presley vocal impersonator. He died in 2008 from complications of diabetes. He was also the bassist for "Hybrid", a jazz fusion band in his Arlington days, which won the new jazz band catagory at the Newport Jazz Festival in the late 1980's. I, Doug Polk am retired in Chico, CA, but I still take occasional gigs playing swing jazz violin in the group "The Plutons."
